Around 1916, the artist gave this painting of his family to his wife''s sister''s daughter Margaret Ramsay Tryon of Salem, MA, likely as a wedding present (according to donor; see letter in object file). Presumably upon death of Margaret Ramsay Tryon in 1978, the painting passed through inheritance to Tyron''s daughter, Katharine Tryon Bradley, of Madison, WI. In July 1991, Bradley gifted the painting to the Elvehjem Museum of Art [now called Chazen Museum of Art]
