Kikujidō Seated by a Stream amid Chrysanthemums

Katsushika Hokusai

Kikujidō, or Chrysanthemum Boy, was a popular literary character blessed with eternal youth. On this program for a set of musical performances, Kikujidō writes verses with an ink brush on chrysanthemum flowers, the source of his longevity, and puts them in a river to float downstream. The text, listing musical groups, is upside-down relative to the image, allowing the paper to fold into a program.
