This relief sculpture features a highly textured surface composed of hair-like fibers arranged in a vortex-like swirl around a central point. The overall shape of the sculpture is rectangular and the long strands of fibers, all in various shades of white and grey, seem to sprout from the outer edges of the rectangular support and swirl inward in a counterclockwise direction to a center point. The fibers come together to form a valley, similar to a part of hair, that extend vertically downward from the center of the swirl to the bottom edge. The overall effect is that of a rectangular animal hide with a large cowlick, or hair whorl, at its center. The textured surface created by the fibers enhances the play of light and shadow within the crevices of the hair to create contrast and emphasizes the tactile quality of the work.
