Nicolas Lancret

Lancret championed the new genre invented by the artist Antoine Watteau of the fête galante, a picture in which elegant figures in a garden setting are shown engaged in leisure activities such as conversation and music making. This is the original drawing for an etching of the same title engraved by François Joullain (1697–1778).
