In or after 1947, possibly purchased in France* by Vernon Hall (Madison, WI); 1977, deposited on long-term loan to the Elvehjem Art Center [now called Chazen Museum of Art]; 16 January 1981, gifted by Vernon and Sandra Hall (Madison, WI) to the Elvehjem Museum of Art [now called Chazen Museum of Art]. *The preface for the 1978 Catalogue of The Vernon Hall Collection of European Medals states that the core of this collection was purchased in France in 1947, but the object file contains no records specific to the purchase of this work.
