This painting presents a view of a large cathedral viewed from across a river. The calm river dominates the foreground, serving as a mirror for the cathedral. The majestic cathedral is situated on the far bank, its intricate architecture, spires, and central tower rise above the surrounding landscape. A cluster of smaller, red-brick and traditional buildings are nestled at the base of the cathedral, integrated with dense, mature trees and foliage along the riverbank. A narrow dirt road lines the river, and diminutive figures walk along it. The cathedral, landscape, and blue sky are reflected in the still water below. In the left foreground, the nearest riverbank is covered in a mix of wild green and brown grasses and shrubs. A dirt path runs through this area, extending toward a wooden fence in the distance. The scene is bathed in a soft, diffused light with a golden-yellow hue, strongly suggesting the hazy atmosphere of either dawn or dusk.
