Diana

Diana

Edward MacCartan

Edward McCartan cast editions in bronze of Diana (64.6.1), so that the sculpture is also in various other collections. Diana, the huntress, is the Roman version of Artemis. A wood nymph, she was worshiped in temples in groves. The lean, lithe bodies of goddess and hound straining at the leash are highly ornamental, appropriate both in a museum and a private garden.
