Hercules the Archer (Héraklès, archer)

Hercules the Archer (Héraklès, archer)

Emile-Antoine Bourdelle

Emile-Antoine Bourdelle sent his sculpture Herakles/Archer to the Paris Salon in 1909, where it was an instant success. The taut muscles of Herakles' heroic arm are ready to let loose an invisible arrow. Contained energy, tension, and monumentality are all suggested with extreme structural clarity. The Chazen's Herakles/Archer is a reduction cast from the original life-size bronze now in Paris; after Bourdelle's death his widow authorized this edition of 15.
