Drop by with your friends and family for an afternoon of artmaking inspired by our latest exhibition, 'Insistent Presence: Contemporary African Art from the Chazen Collection'. Community Cape Workshop
Work alongside artists Wildcat Ebony Brown and Lynore Routté to make your own Wide Awakes cape. Blank capes and supplies provided. Everyone can be a Wide Awake!
The Civil War-era Wide Awakes started as an abolitionist youth group in 1860. Wearing capes and carrying lanterns they marched for voter registration and political activism. Today's Wide Awakes are "an open-source network who believe in the power to radically re-imagine the future through creative collaboration."

UW Family Weekend at the Chazen Museum of Art
It's UW Family Weekend! Families are welcome to drop by the Chazen Museum of Art between 1:00 and 3:00 pm to create a multimedia craft inspired by glass artwork in our collection.

Echoing Overseas: Papermaking Workshop with Tea Gathering
For centuries, tea gathering has been an occasion for appreciating artworks and giving birth to new arts in Asia. In this spirit, Echoing Overseas Curator, Chi-Lynn Lin, has invited guest paper artist, Veronica Pham to join her in conversation and collaboration. At this event, guests will be able to taste an assortment of Asian tea while learning about the history and technique of papermaking in Vietnam. Learn to "doodle stitch" with artist Amanda McCavour, make pressed-flower bookmarks with Wisconsin State Herbarium, go on a prairie-plant scavenger hunt, and visit the Madison Reading Project.

Stitching Workshop with Amanda McCavour
Use machine embroidery and water-soluble stabilizer in a variety of ways to create lace-like structures where stitches holds the piece together. Experiment with combining threads with an assortment of materials like plastics, papers, and yarns to create a variety of samples exploring different texture and color combinations.
Basic sewing skills required. If you can thread and sew a straight (ish) line, this workshop is for you!
