Artist Roberto Torres Mata leads viewers through his exhibition: Untethered: Our Journey Beyond Borders, opening at the Chazen on April 7th. The exhibition is a response to migration, immigration, and displacement of people and animals alike, and Mata will take you on a path that highlights these struggles of migration. Our Kind of Happy Hour: Bridge Poetry

Join us for the return of our Bridge Poetry series, which highlights an esteemed literary tradition: poetry inspired by art. This series establishes a unique opportunity for poets to write and read ekphrastic—or descriptive—poems. For the Bridge Poetry Series reading on March 31, poets wrote in response to Suzanne Caporael: The Nature of Things, the Chazen’s new exhibit, which opened on February 23rd.

Estuarine researchers Deanna Erickson and Emily Tyner will discuss the science behind the art of Suzanne Caporael. Erickson and Tyner will take a close look at two pieces within Suzanne Caporael: The Nature of Things, the Chazen’s new exhibit featuring Caporael, to help us understand exactly what is occurring in the images, and why the connection between art and science is so important.

Our Kind of Happy Hour: James Gill

Join portrait, editorial and fine art photographer, James Gill, as he discusses his portrait project, “Back in the World.” This collaboration with PBS Wisconsin offered Gill a unique opportunity to create a portrait of the men and women who served in the Vietnam War.
