Description

Music has always been part of the Chazen Museum of Art, from string quartets and ukelele ensembles to taiko drumming and jazz combos. On Saturday, you can listen to music and make it too.

The Chazen is a new venue for Make Music Madison, a daylong event on June 21 that’s part of Make Music Day in more than a thousand cities around the world. It joins 153 other venues in Madison, from clubs, restaurants, and parks to driveways, garages, and front porches.

With nearly four hundred artists performing, many at multiple venues, organizers say Madison is one of the largest city turnouts in the nation.

“We are so excited to participate in this worldwide experience to kick off the summer,” said Haylie Hart, the Chazen’s event assistant. “The visual arts and music have such strong ties. And here at the Chazen, you can do more than just listen if you feel moved to join in.”

Make Music Madison at the Chazen is free and open to the public. Food and drink are available for purchase at the Chazen Café. RSVPs (see below) are encouraged but not required.

We’re encouraging anyone who attended our Family Day: Beat Making event to bring their instruments back and play along with Make Music Madison acts. Feeling musically shy? We’ll have art supplies available so you can color or sketch what you hear and feel.

And if you’re inspired to burst into song, stick around for the final act of the day, Just Bach Concerts. They’ll lead a choral music audience sing-along after their performance.

See Listings on the Make Music Madison website for more performances throughout the city.
