
A 90,000 total sq. ft. building with 25,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space, the Conrad A. Elvehjem Building, originally called the Elvehjem Art Center, was designed by the Chicago architect Harry Weese in the late 1960s. It opened in September, 1970. Conceived as a visual art center, the building houses the Chazen Museum of Art, Kohler Art Library, the Department of Art History, three auditoria, two seminar rooms, and one classroom. All facilities in the building are restricted for programs in the visual arts.
